Hi, I'm @scottjrainey 👋

Agentic Engineer | Builder

Engineering is changing, so I am too. Roles like "Software Engineer" and "Designer" will not be relevant much longer. While they still are, I'm an "Agentic Engineer", but really I'm a builder. Builders work with other builders and ai agents to build useful things. It's a different way of thinking and working. Most other knowledge workers are builders too now. Even if they don't know it yet.

Agentic engineers build AI-enhanced processes, tools, and infrastructure that let other builders work as close to bare metal as possible. Most builders will create and work with code, but they won't write it.

Agentic engineers don't write much code, if any. They create agents and workflows for those agents and other builders. Builders and agents use the same tools.

This site is to share useful learnings from my path and journey as builder in whatever this post-ai era of engineering becomes; A kind of individual contributor proof-of-work. These are exciting times. Let's build.

    Agentic Engineer | Builder

One day I tried out Cursor with GitHub Copilot and the Copilot cli. I saw ai agents are really here and ready to build with humans doing real software engineering work. I built more and learned more becoming an agentic engineer and builder. Now, I build agentic layers into codebases so they can work on themselves and learn how to build themselves better.

    Gaia
    Senior Software Engineer

Growing businesses need growing systems. Gaia grew quickly. More customers watching and reading more content in more languages on more devices. The engineering team migrated a vendor-hosted monolith to containerized microservices running in a global hybrid cloud. We started streaming live events from an on-site event center. Along the way, I explored how AI could integrate into content management and engineering workflows.
